I’ve been asked this question before and I thought I’d give you my thoughts…
Facebook & Twitter etc are fantastic platforms for promoting your business but there is a catch: you don’t pay for it.
Now everyone likes not paying for things: free is good eh? But the problem is that we are all essentially tolerated squatters in the land of Facebook & Twitter, and they can change the rules all the time – right under our feet and without our say so.
This is not a criticism though; they are still fairly new companies in the still fairly new world of social media and they are still uncovering the best ways of making money. Which is fair enough, at the end of the day someone has to pay the server hosting bill for Twitter and Facebook….and it aint gonna be cheap!
A website, on the other hand, is yours. Your kingdom. Your design. Your words. Your business. You own it – nothing changes on the site without your say so – it is a rock to cling to in the ever change world of the Internet.
Which is why I talk about Internet Strategy really. Marketing your business online as all about using an appropriate mix of techniques.
