I’m always on the look out for talented freelancers and, at the moment, I’ve got a particular need for designers & developers who are strong with WordPress (not immediate start stuff, just looking forward to next few months).
Note: please do not respond if you’re an agency. And no, I’m not looking to outsource projects to Romania etc. I’m looking for UK based full time, professional freelancers.
Role 1: Designer/HTML & CSS builder (+ WordPress)
You’ll design and build websites & have history in doing so & a visible portfolio. And many times you may need to create them as a WordPress theme. You’ll know your HTML/CSS, responsive etc inside out.
I’d expect you to know a bit about Jquery (e.g. getting plugins workings) but not be a PHP expert or be a hardcore WordPress serverside expert (that’s role 2).
Ideally you’ll know the basics about GIT and/or SVN.
Role 2: PHP developer (+ WordPress)
You’re almost certainly not a designer but a hard core PHP coder. Experience of looking after linux servers etc. You’re not a sysadmin but you know what you need to about SSH, SVN, GIT, Apache, MySQL etc. Getting your hands dirty with custom WordPress or any crazy problem I throw at you is your thing.
How do Jojet projects run?
If I’m pitching for a project I’ll probably get a guestimate from you as to the amount of time involved. I obviously need this to be fairly accurate (unless scope changes) or otherwise I could be left with a problem. However, that’s never been a problem to date as I’m pretty specific with what I ask for and freelancers are pretty specific about the deliverables (e.g. A = X but if you want B then that’ll be an extra Y).
Once a project is going ahead I’ll typically specify everything up on Teambox where we can have conversations about issues, set tasks etc.
Typically we encourage freelancers to use the virtualised development environment based on http://vagrantup.com/.
Changes are typically deployed to a secure, staging environment for final testing before live.
What types of people does this suit?
The type of people I’m looking for are organised self starters (classic freelancers) – we’ll rarely be face to face and will use SKYPE and tools like TeamBox to organise things. You’ll need to be prompt on replies and be able to manage my expectation of when stuff will get done.
Ideally you’ll be a long term freelancer working from home, shared office working on multiple projects at the same time (as opposed to someone contracting for a company 9-5). If you have a 9 to 5 job or a 9 to 5 contract but want occasional evening weekend work then fine, just let me know.
If this sounds like you, then please get in touch via email or Twitter. I’m based in Newport, South Wales but you’ll probably be anywhere in the UK. In the first instance I’d like to know where you fit above, what you’ve worked on and your rate etc. After that perhaps we can set up a SKYPE.
Note: please do not contact if you are a recruitment agency, an off shore company or any other company who wants me to outsource work. That’s not what I’m looking for. I’m typically after full time, professional, freelancers.
Oh, if we’ve spoken already about freelancing; that’s cool, this includes you – please double check where you fit here and shout out.
