I’ve always been ‘into’ computers…
From an early age I watched Making The Most of the Micro and any other programme that had anything vaguely to do with computers; I was hooked.
The first time around, I made a bit of a mess of my A levels and had to spend two years working in Tesco’s whilst pulling myself through evening class. After that I went to the University of Plymouth where I obtained a 2:1 degree in computing.
I’ve worked for blue chip companies such as American Express and British Airways. In the late 90′s I was working on OS/390 IBM mainframe computers but I quickly moved over to the web technology; which looked like it had a bit of a future
Since then I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazingly talented people who have taught me a huge amount. My roles have involved everything from design, programming, systems architecture and team management. I’ve worked and lived in Brighton and London but now I’m back home in God’s Own Country (Wales); why move anywhere else?
What I do
Typically my role is very client facing; working out what is best for their business online. This may well be revamping their website but it could also be providing them social media training or helping them with their longer term internet strategy. My other company, HB&co (which is a partnership with Russell Britton), specialises in larger projects as well as branding (e.g. our recent website for Monmouthshire County Council).
I regularly speak at events (e.g. Revolution Conf, Ignite, Web Source East) and and I have written for publications such as .net magazine. Please get in touch if you’d like to book me for an event or if you’d like to chat about your business.
p.s. and here’s my monsters…
